Are We Running Out of Time? Discovering the Final Countdown To His Return

The anticipation of the end times has captivated human minds for centuries. From religious texts to pop culture, the concept of the world's conclusion evokes both curiosity and fear. In this article, we'll delve into the teachings of Luke 19 and explore the signs of the end times while grounding our understanding in relevant scriptures.

P - Pointing to the Future

In Luke 19:13, we encounter a parable where Jesus entrusts ten servants with minas, instructing them to "do business till I come." This simple instruction carries profound significance. Jesus paints a vivid picture of preparation and diligence, revealing the essence of living in the last days. Just as those servants were to engage in productive work, we too are called to actively serve God's kingdom.

"Do business till I come." - Luke 19:13

A - A Day Like No Other

The Scriptures emphasize the significance of the day of the Lord, a day that will come unexpectedly "as a thief in the night" (2 Peter 3:10). This day will bring cosmic upheaval, as the heavens pass away with great noise and elements melt with fervent heat. The world as we know it will be burned up, replaced by new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness will dwell.

"But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night…" - 2 Peter 3:10

S - Signs of the Times

Jesus cautioned against being led astray by false prophets and deceivers, as such individuals will arise and lead many astray (Matthew 24:11). The end times will be marked by wars, famines, earthquakes, and persecution. In the face of these challenges, the love of believers may grow cold, but those who endure will be saved.

"For false christs and false prophets will rise…" - Matthew 24:24

T - The Glorious Return

The ultimate sign of Jesus' second coming is his visible appearance in the clouds. He will return with power and glory, causing all the tribes of the earth to mourn. This triumphant return will mark the end of the age and the beginning of a new era. Believers are encouraged to be ready and watchful, for this event will not remain hidden but will be visible to all.

"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven…" - Matthew 24:30

O - Our Response

Living in the last days calls for specific responses from believers. Firstly, our focus should be on holiness, as we are called to lead lives set apart for God. Secondly, rather than getting entangled in endless debates about timelines and conspiracies, we are to focus on doing business for God's kingdom. Our mission remains to spread the gospel, serve others, and build up God's church.

"Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless…" - 2 Peter 3:14

R - Remaining Faithful

The truth of the end times is not meant to breed fear or speculation but to encourage steadfastness. Believers are reminded that God is in control of the timeline and events. We are called to be witnesses of Christ's love and to impact the world around us, regardless of the cultural climate. Our priority should be eternal rewards, not earthly pursuits.

"But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul." - Hebrews 10:39

Conclusion

Living in the last days is not a call to panic or obsession but an invitation to live purposefully and boldly for Christ. Instead of focusing on the unknown details of the end times, we should focus on the known commands of our Savior: love, serve, and make disciples. Let us remember Jesus' words: "Do business till I come." The end of the world is not a moment of dread for believers; it's an opportunity to shine brightly and eagerly await the glorious return of our King.

"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work." - Revelation 22:12
